Blink announced the addition of a new camera, the Blink XT. An outdoor version of their battery powered camera which features a two-year battery life when used with two off-the-shelf AA lithium batteries. The new Blink XT has a weatherproof design and is IP-65 rated to ensure water-resistant. This new camera also has infrared night vision unlike their indoor cameras which use a flashlight illuminator.
Blink XT Design:
On the face of it, the XT looks fairly similar to its predecessor, and maintaining the same square form factor, but sporting a new black coat of the paint. The camera also maintains the stated 2 year battery life of the earlier version, (using two AAs battery) quite possibly the simple camera’s strongest selling point.
Blink XT Features:
The new version bring an IP-65 waterproof rating – a necessity for any outdoor product, along with the infrared shooting to catch activity at the night. The camera shoots in 1080p and uses the same cloud-based software solution as its predecessor, so those who really own an indoor Blink can add this to their existing home system.
As for what the XT does not have – LTE is the biggest standout. After all, the WIFI signals tend to get pretty spotty outside the walls of a house. And like the standard Blink, it is got a pretty basic feature set to compared to a number of higher-end security cams out there.
Blink XT Price:
The Blink XT is scheduled to ship in February 2017 and is available for pre-order for $119 on the company website. Prior to the end of 2016, Blink is also offering a promotion with which customers who order a five-camera Blink indoor system will receive a free Blink XT outdoor camera when they ship. A code for the promotion is available on Blink’s site.
