Kwikset, makers of the Kevo smart lock, have just revealed the second-generation of the device with a fresh design and added security features. Like the original Kevo, the second generation of the smart lock lets user easily gain entry into the home thanks to Kevo’s ability to register a paired smartphone within a certain distance, subsequently unlocking itself when a user is taps on the outside part of the lock.
Plus, the new Kevo can connect to various compatible wearables and smart home devices, including the Nest and Honeywell smart thermostats, the Ring and Skybell video doorbells, and Android Wear.
The biggest change comes in the form of improved security on the smart lock, which has the latest version of the Kwikset’s patented SmartKey security to provide “strong resistance” against attempts at forced entry.
The UniKey-powered Kevo app allows homeowners to remotely manage door access, receive lock notifications and view the activity history. The lock is engineered to work with a wide range of smart home products, and can be unlocked with either a smartphone, and compatible wearables or a contactless key fob. Like its predecessor, the second-generation Kevo fits standard residential exterior doors, but interior side now boasts a sleeker design that reduces some of the bulk. For anyone who does not consider themselves a locksmith, Kevo offers an in-app, interactive installation guide to help you with the setup, and the hardware comes along with a lifetime warranty on the moving parts, a one-year warranty on the electronics and dedicated customer support.
The new Kevo is immediately available for $229 on Amazon in three colors: satin nickel, venetian bronze, and polished brass.
