There is good news for 48 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners waiting for the implementation of the increased dearness allowance. The Finance Ministry on Tuesday issued an order to implement the decision of the Union Cabinet to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) to 28% for Central Government employees from July 1.

The Union Cabinet had decided to increase the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DR) rate for Central Government employees and pensioners by 11 percentage points from July 1. This will increase the new rate of DA from 17% to 28%.

The office memorandum of the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance states that the rate of dearness allowance to employees will be increased from 17% to 28% of the basic pay from July 1. This hike will also include additional installments due from January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021.

According to the Finance Ministry, this order will also be applicable to the civilian employees getting paid from Defense Services Estimate. Separate orders will be issued by the respective ministries for the employees of Armed Forces and the employees of Railways.
