It was told that Ghani may have fled Afghanistan to neighboring countries Tajikistan or Uzbekistan. However, there was no official confirmation in this regard. In his first statement after leaving Afghanistan, Ghani wrote a post on Facebook. The President wrote that he had two difficult choices, first the armed Taliban trying to break into Rashtrapati Bhavan, and second, leaving his beloved country, which I had spent 20 years of my life defending. If again countless number of citizens of the country were martyred and the destruction in Kabul was the only destruction, then its consequences for the city of about six million people would have been very fatal. The Taliban have decided to remove me, they have come here to attack Kabul and the people of Kabul. In such a situation, to avoid the bloodshed, I found it appropriate to leave from there. The Taliban have won the battle by force of arms and now it is their responsibility to protect the honor, wealth and self-respect of the countrymen.
An educationist and economist by profession, Ghani was the 14th President of Afghanistan. For the first time on 20 September 2014 and for the second time on 28 September 2019, he had won the office by winning the presidential elections.
