New Delhi : President Ashraf Ghani, who left the country as soon as the Taliban arrived in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, has come forward and answered the allegations against him. Ghani, who took asylum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), made several points in his Facebook message. Ghani is alleged to have left Kabul with four cars and that his helicopter was full of money. In his video message, Ghani has termed the allegations against him as baseless. He has said that he did not want bloodshed in Kabul, so he left the capital. Ghani says that he left the presidential palace in such a situation that he did not have time to put on shoes. He had to leave the place with the sandals he was wearing.
‘I am grateful to the security forces’
In his message, he said, ‘I am grateful to the security forces and I am proud of them. They have not lost and they have not failed. We failed in politics but in what politics? It was a failure of the Taliban leadership. It was a failure of the leadership of the government and the leadership of international allies. It is the failure of the peace process that pushed us towards war. The US Trump administration had said that the peace process should be based on Afghan experiences and international standards, but it did not happen. I support the talks started by the government which are still going on. It is now being carried forward by Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, and former President Hamid Karzai. This process needs to be successful. I was forced to leave Afghanistan with a pair of my traditional clothes, a shirt and sandals that I am wearing.
Gani said – I could not even wear my shoe
In his new video message, Ghani said, “People who did not speak the local language entered the Presidential Palace. They were looking for me. I was rescued from there. I had to leave there in such a condition that I could not even wear my shoes.
Ghani further said, ‘Security officials had warned that the Taliban were looking for me. I could not stay in Kabul. I didn’t want to end up like Mohammad Najibullah, who was hanged by the Taliban in 1996. The president said that ‘until I return, I am consulting with others so that I can continue my efforts for justice for the Afghans.’
