Dhaka : In Bangladesh’s Khulna district, miscreants attacked at least four temples, some shops and houses belonging to the minority community, following which the police arrested 10 people and increased security in the area. This information was given in the news in the media. According to the news of ‘Dhaka Tribune’, the incident took place on Saturday in Shiyali village of Rupsha Upazila. On Friday night, there was a fierce dispute between Hindu and Muslim residents of the village. According to local residents and victims, the miscreants first attacked the Shiyali Mahacrematorium. They damaged the idols in the crematorium and the temple.

According to the news, from there the miscreants went to Shiyali Purbapara area, where they damaged the idols installed in Hari Mandir, Durga Mandir and Govinda Mandir. It said that six shops and two houses belonging to the local Hindu community were also vandalized.

Krishna Gopal Sen, general secretary of Rupsha Upazila Puja Udyapan Parishad, said that at least 10 idols in four temples were vandalized during the attacks. Sen said that there is a lot of tension in the area. But the local administration is working to keep the situation under control. Some local residents claimed that the attackers were from neighboring Sheikhpura, Bamandanga and Chadpur areas. But his identity could not be confirmed.

Rupsha police station in-charge Sardar Musharraf Hussain said that additional police force has been deployed to maintain law and order in the area as tension escalated after the attacks. Hussain said that we are alert and active to keep the situation under control.

Maulana Nazim Uddin, the imam of the local mosque, said that during Isha prayers, Shiyali was on his way towards the Maha cremation ground while singing Hindu kirtan, which led to a dispute. He said that when I requested him not to sing kirtan in front of the mosque during Namaz, someone pushed me which worsened the situation. However, the situation was resolved after the police arrived and intervened. However, Sen said that none of the group of Hindus had pushed the Imam.
