Former South African captain and batsman AB de Villiers is one of the best cricketers. He has proved himself many times with his bat and has broken many records. He still continues to dominate T20 franchise cricket around the world. De Villiers has been a showstopper not only on the field but also off the field. He has a large number of fans. De Villiers has been in the news for the last few days, the reason for which is not good at all.

Recently, former Proteas selector Hussain Manack has accused de Villiers of taking decisions on the basis of racism. Manack told Cricket South Africa (CSA) Social Justice and Nation-building (SJN) that de Villiers had tried to drop Kagiso Rabada from the national team early in his career. At the same time, now former South African batsman Khaya Jondo has also accused de Villiers of discrimination. He says that de Villiers was a childhood hero but now he does not respect him.

Zondo said during a hearing on Social Justice and Nation Building that de Villiers had influenced his selection for the fifth ODI on the tour of India in October 2015. Let us tell you that Zondo was ruled out of the decider after the series draw 2-2. At that time Dean Elgar had gone to India to be a part of the Test team but he played consecutive series. A group of black players wrote a letter to Cricket South Africa on the management’s selection of Elgar.

Jondo said, ‘The captain (de Villiers) called me away from the rest of the team and said that I should not play. He was trying to explain himself and was taking full responsibility for the decision. I remember he lost all respect as a captain when he tried to convince me to drop me from the team. I couldn’t believe that someone I considered my cricketing hero was trying to justify himself like that. He said that I should accept it because the decision has come from his side.

Jondo continued, ‘I was mentally switched off for the whole day after that. I pulled myself out of the team because it was clear that he wanted me in the team. Keeping the distance helped me deal with the rest. It is worth noting that right-handed batsman Zondo represented South Africa in just 5 ODIs and scored 142 runs.
