Saint Lucia: South Africa beat West Indies by a huge margin of 158 runs in the second and final Test on Monday on the back of brilliant bowling from Keshav Maharaj (a total of five wickets including a hat-trick). With this, the Proteas team cleaned the Caribbean team 2-0 in the two-match Test series. Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj created history by taking a hat-trick in the second innings of the West Indies. He has become the second South African bowler to take a hat-trick in Tests. A South African player has taken a hat-trick after 61 years. Earlier, Geoff Griffin did this against England in 1960 at the historic Lord’s ground.

South Africa had set a target of 324 runs for West Indies to win. In the 37th over of West Indies’ second innings, Maharaj made his prey to Kieron Powell, Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva. Maharaj has become the first cricketer from his country to take a Test hat-trick.

Keshav Maharaj, who took the hat-trick, praised his new captain Dean Elgar after the win. Maharaj said, “With Dean Elgar as the new captain, it is important for the team to start a new journey. The credit goes to the entire team for this series win.

Maharaj explained what was going through his mind as he neared the hat-trick and also explained why he is a big fan of his new captain, Dean Elgar. Maharaj said, ‘When the hat-trick ball was there, many things were running in my mind. All credit goes to Viaan, who took a great catch going down the leg side. Apart from this, one thing I really liked about captain Dean Elgar is that he has full faith in his spinners. I am a big fan of his thing.
