A top leader of the General Insurance Employees All India Association (GIEAIA) said this. Oriental Insurance Company Limited, one of the four insurance companies, on Thursday issued a circular announcing the payment of a one-time ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh to the nominee of employees who died of COVID-19.
The insurer also stated that it will reimburse 100% of the medical expenses remaining under the Staff Group Mediclaim Policy for the treatment of the employee/spouse/dependent children and parents. The insurer said this benefit would be different from the existing ex-gratia medical relief scheme for certain specific ailments.
According to the insurer, the benefit will be payable to those who were suffering from COVID-19 after its outbreak in 2020 and it is applicable to those who may suffer in future.
GIEAIA general secretary K. Govindan said the benefit would be applicable for all four state-owned non-life insurance companies – The National Insurance Company Limited, The New India Assurance Company Limited, The Oriental Insurance and The United India Insurance Company Limited.
