Doctors at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary called on the technical rescue service of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to assist the admitted person on 22 July. The crew used a specialist cutting equipment to cut the metal ring, thereby relieving the man of his painful and embarrassing plight.

Former Huddersfield GP Stuard Oliver commented on the strange case, saying – “I don’t know why this particular person might have done it, but I can only assume that it was a way to help maintain an erection.” He added- “It must have been incredibly painful and you would need to remove the ring as soon as possible because gangrene is likely to develop.”
