Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching the second phase of PM Modi Ujjwala Yojana on Tuesday (August 10) after giving gifts to more than 9.75 crore farmer families under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Under which a target has been set to provide 1 crore gas connections. During this, PM Modi will also distribute gas connections to the beneficiaries in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh through video conferencing. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that PM Modi will launch the second phase of the Ujjwala scheme on August 10 by distributing LPG connections among Below Poverty Line (BPL) beneficiaries in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. The PMO said that the Prime Minister will also interact with the beneficiaries of this scheme through video conference on this occasion.

The PMO said that in the year 2018, women of different categories including Dalit, Adivasi, Tea Garden, Most Backward Classes were included under the ambit of this scheme. In view of this, a new target was set to provide LPG connections to 8 crore women. This target was achieved in 2019. An additional 1 crore LPG connections were announced in the budget this year under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The PMAO said that its enrollment process will require very few documents and there will be no compulsion for migrants to provide ration card or residence certificate.

In the first phase, a target has been set to provide free LPG connection in the second phase to the people who were deprived of this facility. In this phase, along with providing the first refill free of cost to the beneficiaries, the stove will also be provided free of cost. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was started in the year 2016 and at that time a target was set to provide LPG connections to women members of 5 crore BPL families.
