New Delhi : After Kalpana Chawla, now another daughter of India is going to fly for space. Sirisha Bandla belongs to Andhra Pradesh and she was also born here. She is the second Indian-born woman, after Kalpana Chawla, to fly to space. She will depart from Virgin Galactic’s ‘VSS Unity’ with five other astronauts.

While Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal, Haryana, Sirisha Bandla was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. She grew up in Houston, USA and is about to go on a space walk. There is a wave of happiness in India on his achievement. The ‘VSS Unity’ spacecraft with which she is going to space will take off from New Mexico on July 11.

Big achievement in short time

Sirisha will be one of the six scientists who are going to fly in this spacecraft. Sirisha is the number four scientist in this group of astronauts. He is also the Vice President of Government Affairs and Research Operations for Virgin Galactic Company and achieved this feat in just six years. He graduated in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University in the US and then took an MBA degree from Georgetown University.

During her spaceflight, Sirisha will also be in charge of Human Tended Research Experience, which will give her an opportunity to learn about the impact of space travel on astronauts. The world of space fascinated him since childhood and the thrill of seeing rockets and spacecrafts inspired him to become an astronaut.
