A senior official of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said on Wednesday that Amul has increased the prices of all brands of milk by Rs 2 per liter from July 1. The price hike is being done after a gap of almost one year and seven months, which has become necessary due to increase in cost of production, he said. Amul milk prices will be increased by Rs 2 per liter across India from tomorrow.

GCMMF managing director RS Sodhi said the new prices would be applicable to all Amul milk brands such as Sona, Taza, Shakti, T-Special, as well as cow and buffalo milk. Sodhi markets the Amul brand of milk and dairy products.

Sodhi said the increase in milk prices has become necessary due to rising food inflation. “In addition, there has been an increase of 30 to 40 per cent in packaging cost, 30 per cent in transportation cost and 30 per cent in energy cost, which has led to increase in input cost.

The GCMMF further said that Amul as a policy gives around 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers. Price revision will help milk producers to maintain remunerative prices.
