New Delhi: On Wednesday, gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a car carrying two Chinese nationals in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi. One has been injured in this incident and has been admitted to the hospital. The motive behind the attack is not clear. Senior officer Javed Akbar said that the police is still investigating.

Rescue worker Ahmed Shah said both foreigners were Chinese and one of them was injured. Karachi is the capital of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, home to several Chinese-funded construction projects. Both the Chinese nationals were working in a nearby factory in the city.

Speaking on the incident, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that we have full confidence in the security of Chinese citizens and property in Pakistan from Pakistan. China is closely watching this matter and the related matter is still under investigation.

The incident comes two weeks after nine Chinese workers were killed. A Chinese national was killed in an explosion on a bus in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This incident happened on July 14.

The safety of Chinese workers in Pakistan has long been a matter of concern. Pakistani officials continue to give vague details about the nature of the attack on the dam workers.
