New Delhi: A massive explosion on a cargo ship caught fire at the Jebel Ali port, one of the world’s largest ports in Dubai, which shook buildings around the city’s commercial area. The explosion occurred in a container kept inside a ship at the busiest port of Jebel Ali. There is no news of any casualties. 14 sailors were present on the ship, who have been evacuated safely.

The ‘Dubai Media Office’ said on its official Twitter account, ‘A container caught fire inside a ship parked at Jebel Ali port. The Dubai Civil Defense team is trying to douse the fire.

Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroshi, Director-General of Dubai Civil Defense, said the fire at the Jebel Ali port has been brought under control and the cooling process is underway. It took about 40 minutes for the team to douse the fire.

According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the explosion was heard in parts of Dubai. Flames were also seen rising in the sky. At the same time, in the footage shared by the officials on social media, firefighters are seen dousing the fire in huge cargo containers. According to the news of ‘Gulf News’, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police said that the ship standing on ‘Dockside-14’ caught fire.

Lieutenant General Al Marri said, “There were 130 containers on board. Three containers contained flammable material. There was no explosive or radioactive material inside,” officials said, adding that investigations were on to determine the cause of the fire. The Jebel Ali Port authorities have taken all necessary steps to ensure smooth movement of vessels at the port.
