New Delhi : India is now ranked 10th in the Global Cyber Security Index, compared to 47th position earlier. In a study conducted by the United Nations, various countries have been ranked in terms of cyber security, in which China and Pakistan are ranked 33rd and 79th respectively.

The global index list for the study done by the United Nations on cyber security has come to the fore at a time when the first formal public meeting on cyber security was organized in the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday itself. On behalf of India, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla participated and drew the attention of the international community to the misuse of cyber space by terrorists.

‘Terrorists are using cyberspace’

“Cyber space is misused by terrorists to spread their propaganda and incite hatred. India as a victim of terrorism has always emphasized the need for member states to more strategically deal with the effects of terrorist exploitation of cyber domains.

In a meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue of international peace and cyber security, he also said that digital gaps between nations create an unstable environment in the cyber domain. He said that the increasing digital dependence in the post-Covid era has exposed digital inequalities and this should be bridged through capacity building.
