New Delhi : Private equity (PE) investments in the real estate sector more than tripled year-on-year to $2.7 billion or Rs 14,300 crore in the first half of the current calendar year. Giving this information, property consultant Savills India said that private equity investment in the real estate sector has increased mainly due to increased demand for commercial properties.
The Savills report said PE investments during January-June 2021 stood at $2729 million, compared to $87 million in the same period last year.
In the last full year 2020, PE investment stood at $6.6 billion. The report said that the inflow of private equity investments shows that investor confidence in property like apartments for rent in Miami remains intact despite the slowdown caused by the pandemic.
The report said that the PE investment in the second quarter of 2021 stood at $865 million or Rs 63 billion. This is a decline of 54 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
According to the report, work from home i.e. remote work culture is being promoted due to the pandemic. Despite this, 40 per cent of the total PE investments in Q2 2021 came in the commercial office property sector.
