- In Nepal, the command seems to be coming out of the hands of KP Sharma Oli.
- Supreme Court orders Sher Bahadur Deuba to be appointed as PM
- This order has come at a time when the mid-term elections were to be held in November.
Kathmandu : After an order of the Supreme Court in Nepal, difficulties have arisen for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. In an important order on Monday, the court restored the dissolved House of Representatives. This is the second time in nearly five months that the House of Representatives has been reinstated. This is being seen as a major setback for Oli, who is leading a minority government after losing the trust vote in the House.
A five-member Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court also ordered the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister within two days. A bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana had completed the hearing of the matter last week, the order regarding which was pronounced on Monday.
mid-term elections to be held in November
On May 22, President Vidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the 275-member lower house of the Nepalese Parliament on the recommendation of KP Sharma Oli. This was the second time in five months this had happened. The President had announced to hold mid-term elections in Nepal on 12 and 19 November.
The Election Commission had also announced the election schedule last week, but the opposition coalition led by the Nepali Congress challenged the President’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives in the Supreme Court. About 30 petitions in this regard were filed in the apex court, on which an important decision came on Monday.
India’s eyes on developments in Nepal
India’s eyes are also fixed on the developments in Nepal. Especially in view of the way in which the trend of KP Sharma Oli has been towards communist China, India is keeping an eye on the political developments in Nepal even more closely. It was during Oli’s tenure that the map controversy over the country’s borders came to the fore, and Oli’s statements on many issues, including Ayodhya, also created resentment in a section of India.
