Karachi : Pakistan has closed a major road to the border with Afghanistan adjoining Balochistan province. Pakistan’s move comes after reports of Taliban fighters capturing the crucial “Spin Boldak Crossing” in Afghanistan. A senior official gave this information on Wednesday. Chaman’s assistant commissioner Arif Kakar confirmed to the media that the ‘Maitri Dwar’ road on the Chaman border with Afghanistan has been closed.

Meanwhile, according to the AP news, the Taliban on Wednesday announced their control of Spin Boldak, an important strategic point adjacent to Pakistan. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted a video purportedly of Taliban fighters in the southeastern city of Spin Boldak. At the same time, people of the Pakistani city of Chaman, adjacent to the border with Afghanistan, also saw Taliban flags waved across the border and vehicles of Taliban fighters were also seen.

This route is an important strategic point
Kakar said, “A high level of security monitoring has been ensured.” However, he did not comment on reports of Taliban fighters taking control of the Spin Boldak crossing. Spin Boldak is an important strategic point of the Afghan border adjacent to the city of Chaman in Pakistan, through which trade between the two countries takes place on a large scale.

Afghanistan’s refusal to control the route
Photos viral on social media claim Taliban fighters to be in control around this crucial point. However, Afghan government officials have denied this and said that Spin Boldak is under their control.
