New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India has made a big announcement in view of the shortage of cash in ATMs. Now banks will have to pay a penalty if there is no cash after a time limit. This penalty will have to be paid up to Rs 10,000 per ATM. The new system will come into effect from October 1, 2021. Obviously, the new order of RBI is going to give big relief to the customers. Because banks will be afraid that if there is a shortage of cash, they will have to pay a penalty.
What did RBI say
According to the new guidelines of RBI, from October, banks will have to inform how long their ATMs remain without cash in a month. Under this, if there will be no cash in the ATM of a bank for more than 10 hours within a month. Then he will have to pay penalty. Banks will have to submit the first report to the RBI by November 5. Obviously after this arrangement, you will also be able to give information in this regard to RBI.
If money is deducted by mistake then 100 rupees will be given on daily basis.
Similarly, RBI has given the right to customers that if a user’s money is accidentally deducted while using ATM, then he can recover damages from the bank. Under this, if the card issuing bank does not return the money within 5 days. So the customer will get a fine of Rs 100 per day thereafter. For this the user does not need to apply anywhere.
What to do if the bank does not pay the damages
But if the user is not compensated by the card issuing bank, then he can complain to the bank. The bank will have to redress his complaint and will pay damages as per rules.
