Mumbai: The recently launched show ‘Balika Vadhu 2’ is once again addressing the topic of child marriage and traces the journey of a new ‘Anandi’ played by Shreya Patel. Writer Purnendu Shekhar elaborates on the inspiration behind the story and the research work that went behind the project.

The writer of the show said, “I am originally from Rajasthan, and I got inspiration for the story of ‘Balika Vadhu 2’ from some real-life incidents that happened in my own family. A close relative of mine was a victim of child marriage, which inspired me. He said – write this story and change the life and mindset of more and more people through my story.

Purnendu elaborated on the research done for the show and said that the most important aspect when dealing with such issues is presenting the facts correctly.

He said, ‘To be honest, you don’t need to do much research while presenting human stories, but you do need to present the facts authentically and clearly. Being from Rajasthan, I know everything about the state, including small places, but I didn’t know much about it.’

Purnendu said, “We got in touch with Ram Mori, a passionate and talented writer from Gujarat who knows the culture of the state, especially the interiors. He was very happy to be a part of the team and it was only because of him that we could understand Gujarati culture. Nice and give a real Gujarati touch to the show.’
