Kandahar: Several Indian diplomats and staff have been evacuated from the Kandahar consulate in Afghanistan amid Taliban claims to control areas in Afghanistan. Around 50 Indian officers were evacuated in a special Indian Air Force aircraft on Saturday as the security situation in Kandahar deteriorated.
Quoting sources, it has been told that this step has been taken as a precaution. In fact, there is a possibility that the Taliban may also target Kandahar, which was once its headquarters.
ANI quoted sources close to the embassy as saying, “The reports related to the closure of the Indian Embassy in Kandahar, Afghanistan are false, the embassy has not been closed.” The security situation is being reviewed here amid the withdrawal of American troops.
Diplomatic sources dismissed reports of the closure of the consulate and said the mission was on. .
Afghan government officials rejected the claim as part of a propaganda campaign launched as foreign forces withdrew after nearly 20 years of fighting.
