New Delhi: In a shocking revelation made by the Income Tax Department of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, around 256 people selling food items like paan, snacks, samosas and chaat have been found to be crorepatis. Also many people working as rag pickers own more than three cars. Even some fruit vendors have been found to be millionaires and owners of hundreds of acres of well cultivable land.
Crorepati sweepers have been found avoiding paying taxes for the past few years. A team of Income Tax Department and GST registration were checked with the help of Big Data software.
Many small fruit vendors, shopkeepers and everyone else including all others did not pay a single rupee outside GST registration. However, he bought assets worth Rs 375 crore in the last four years. The properties were acquired in expensive areas of the city such as Swaroop Nagar, Aryanagar, Hulaganj, Birhana Road, Gumti and Pirod. A snack vendor on Mall Road is paying Rs 1.25 lakh per month on different trains.
The owners of paan shops in Aryanagar, Swaroop Nagar and Birhana Road have allegedly amassed assets worth Rs 5 crore during the lockdown. Apart from this, a case of several purchases of big properties by two people of Swaroop Nagar and Hulaganj has come to the fore. Two sanitation workers from Bekonganj and one in Lalbangla have created assets worth more than ten crores in the last two years.
