- There is talk that Ahmedabad might be a franchise
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen to induct two new franchises in the next season of the IPL. However, the process is still going on and the board is ready to wait on the decision.
‘We have to see the current situation in the country’
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal told IANS on Monday, “We want to induct two new teams in the next season of IPL but we have to look at the market and the current situation in the country.” We can’t give any guarantee of timing as there are many things to see.’
There is talk that Ahmedabad could be a franchise. However, there will be a bidding process before a final decision on the acquisition of the new franchise is taken. The IPL 2021 season was postponed midway while the rest of it will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to October 15.
Preparations for next year’s mega IPL auction
BCCI is preparing for the mega auction next year. There will be three retentions and two right to match card players. All other players will be put up for auction. If two franchises are included, then only mega auction will be conducted. The board wants to wait for the time being.
