The COVID-19 pandemic has affected various industries across the world including the Hindi television industry. Many TV actors faced pay cuts after sitting at home for months during the lockdown. Recently, comedian Bharti Singh spoke about her experience of accepting huge pay cuts. Even before this, many celebrities have talked about salary cut in view of the situation.
1. Deduction in amount received by Bharti Singh:
According to sources, the salary paid to comedian Bharti Singh has been cut by 70 per cent for Dance Deewane and about 50 per cent for The Kapil Sharma Show.
When asked by BT about the pay cut during the pandemic, the actress said, ‘I think everyone got in trouble when they were asked for a pay cut, and I am no exception. I had a lot of conversations on this too. However, when I consider what has unfolded in recent times and in the past year. TV and shows are not getting sponsors, then from where have the channels brought money. Everyone is trying to stand on their own feet. Once we get a good rating, the sponsors will automatically return and our fees will also be increased.
2. Sunil Grover ready for pay cut:
Actor-comedian Sunil Grover, who was last seen in Gangs of Filmistan, also shared that he was ready to take a cut when he returned to work after the first wave of Covid-19. ‘I think in the present scenario, we need to accept pay cut; What matters is going out and working,” he had said. 3. Shilpa Shinde said when the circumstances were favorable:
Shilpa Shinde, who was a part of Sunil Grover’s Gangs of Filmistan, had the same mindset as the actor. The actress was grateful to have got the opportunity to work during the pandemic and shared, “Everyone has taken a lot of rest in the last four months. Now, as we are back at work, our producers and production house are doing their best to move forward. In such a scenario, we cannot afford to complain about the pay cut. We need to adjust to the situation and accept that it is teamwork.
4. Sharad Malhotra also gave a statement:
Ssharad Malhotra, who was last seen in Naagin 5 opposite Surbhi Chandna, spoke about the makers being wise to the situation and trying their best to stand by them in these difficult times. Talking about re-fixing his price as per the budget, Sharad shared, ‘Today if my producers tell me that there is budget crunch and there is financial crunch, then it is fair and sufficient. I’ve always said that if I can do anything to help my creator, I will. This is a time when we have to help each other. So yes I have done that. I have reworked at my own cost. It’s not just me but everyone, even the technicians. Everyone has come together as a family. (Picture: Instagram)
5. Saumya Tandon:
Former Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain actress, Saumya Tandon also spoke about how every industry across the world was affected by the pandemic and was in a position to settle with pay cuts. ‘It’s not just me, it has happened to everyone. It is for the work which is to be done for the future, it is not for the work which we have already done for which payment is pending. But whatever we shoot in the future, because the entire TV industry has to go through some cuts, given that the economy has been shaken not only in our country, but around the world. So, it’s not just me, but all my friends in the television industry, I’m not just talking about the people who are working with me on this show, but everyone around me. People have been asked to take a pay cut. All the production houses have informed their cast that they will have to collaborate in future. (Picture: Instagram)
6. ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ cast Ali Asghar:
Ali Asghar, who was last seen in Akbar Ka Baal Birbal, favors not being a selfish person and understanding every person’s needs and situation during the pandemic.
The actor said, “Things will start afresh. I’d also like to add that I can’t be selfish at the moment. I can’t think of myself, I have to think about others too. A lot of people are back at work with shooting resumed, a TV show set has around 30-40 people. They are spot dada, lightman, technician who are getting paid because shooting has started. He suffered the most when the shooting was not happening. This is the bitter truth. We have to adjust, we have to start somewhere.
