Colombo: Indian opener Prithvi Shaw made his debut in the first T20 International against Sri Lanka on Sunday. However, he could not make it memorable. In the first T20 International being played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Shaw was dismissed without opening an account on the first ball of the innings. Shaw tampered with the outgoing ball of Dushmanth Chamira and returned to the dugout after giving a catch to wicketkeeper Bhanuka.
Prithvi Shaw became the second Indian batsman to be dismissed without opening an account in a T20 International debut. Earlier, KL Rahul was dismissed without opening an account in his debut T20 match against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2016. Indian fans were hoping that Prithvi Shaw would give the team a bang, but it did not happen. Even keeping in mind the T20 World Cup this year, Prithvi Shaw was expected to perform well.

However, Shaw could not take advantage of this feat and was dismissed on the first ball.
After this Shikhar Dhawan (46) and Sanju Samson (27) took over the Indian innings. Both shared a 51-run partnership for the second wicket. Sanju Samson was broken lbw by de Silva. Then skipper Dhawan shared a 62-run partnership for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (50) to take the score beyond 100. Dhawan was caught by Karunaratne at the hands of Bandara.
