New Delhi : A major explosion took place on Wednesday near the home of Hafiz Saeed, the leader of terrorist organization Jamaat-ud-Dawa, in Lahore. At least two people were killed in the blast while several people including women and children were injured. According to Dawn newspaper, Lahore Deputy Commissioner Mudassir Riyaz Malik said that 17 people including women, children were injured in the blast. The injured have been taken to a local hospital for treatment. How the explosion happened is being investigated.

This incident of blast took place in Jauhar Town. The police team and Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot after some time and started relief and rescue operations. Relief workers say those injured in the blast were taken to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore in autorickshaws and private cars.

Explosion very strong
Witnesses to the incident say that the intensity of the explosion was so high that the glass panes of the surrounding houses and buildings were shattered. Some buildings were also damaged in the blast. An eyewitness said that the sound of the blast was heard far away.

The type of explosion was not yet known. However, an eyewitness told Geo TV that a man left the motorcycle outside the house which later exploded. The police have started investigation by cordoning off the entire area. Traffic routes have been changed in the area.

The injured are in critical condition
The Geo TV report quoted Jinnah Hospital personnel as saying that the condition of all the injured is critical. Meanwhile, Home Minister Sheikh Rashit Ahmed has taken cognizance of the incident and sought a report from the Punjab IG and Chief Secretary. Central agencies are helping the Punjab government in the investigation.
