  • The suspense deepened when this cricketer played in the series against India

Colombo: Ahead of the series against India, bad news is coming out for the fans from the Sri Lankan camp. Suspense has been created when Sri Lanka’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera plays in the upcoming home series against India. Kusal Perera has a shoulder injury and did not take part in Sri Lanka’s training session on Wednesday. Since then there are speculations that Kusal Perera may sit out of the series against India.

It has been learned that the wicket-keeper batsman suffered a shoulder injury during the recently concluded tour of England. Despite the injury, Perera continued to play as he was also the captain of the Sri Lankan team on that tour and the visiting team did not have a second option. Along with this, Kusal Perera was also the most experienced player of the Sri Lankan team that went on the tour of England.

Sri Lanka Cricket told Newswire, “Perera has been injected by the medical staff, so he did not practice with the team yesterday and today. We will take a decision on his availability tomorrow, but he doesn’t seem to be in good shape at the moment. India and Sri Lanka will face off in the first ODI on Sunday and Perera’s play in this match is negligible.

Sri Lanka will get a big blow

If Kusal Perera is not fit on time, it will be a setback for the Sri Lankan team. The team is already playing without Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwell and Danushka Gunathilaka, who have been suspended after being found guilty of a bio-bubble violation. By the way, Sri Lanka Cricket has not yet announced the team for the series against India. However, it is a certainty that Dasun Shanaka will lead the Sri Lanka team against India.

Sri Lanka were defeated in all the matches on the tour of England under the captaincy of Perera. Sri Lanka will now play three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals against India. The series was supposed to start on 13 July, but was postponed till 18 July after Kovid-19 cases came to the Sri Lankan camp. The hosts’ batting coach Grant Flower and data analyst GT Niroshan were found to be COVID-19 positive. Sri Lanka head coach Mickey Arthur and bowling coach Chaminda Vaas will join the practice session after completing their quarantine.
