New Delhi: The Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the toughest examinations in the world. Every year around one million candidates compete for less than one thousand vacancies across the country. Those who make it to the final list are definitely capable as well as lucky. Uttar Pradesh gives more civil officers than any other state. There is a small village in Uttar Pradesh which is called the name of IAS and IPS. Madhopatti village in Jaunpur district has 75 households and almost every household has a member of the IAS or PCS cadre.

There are a total of 75 houses in this village, but the number of officers from here is more than 50. Not only sons and daughters of this village but daughter-in-law are also holding the posts of officers. The Madhopatti village of Jaunpur can be compared with the Gahmar village of Ghazipur, which is known as the ‘Village of the Jawans’. Here every household has at least one member of the army. Many people in Madhopatti village have chosen their career in civil services. Some youth of the village have also found successful careers in Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC). Not only this, four brothers in this village also have a unique record of being selected for the IAS.

Vinay Kumar Singh, who cracked the civil service in 1955, retired as the Chief Secretary of Bihar. Vinay Kumar Singh’s two brothers Chhatrapal Singh and Ajay Kumar Singh passed the examination in 1964. Fourth brother Shashikant Singh became IAS in 1968. Chhatrapal Singh also served as the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu.

who is the first officer of the village

According to reports, the first civil servant of Madhopatti was Mustafa Hussain, father of famous poet Vamiq Jaunpuri. He joined the civil services in 1914. After this the next civil service rank came to the village in 1952 when Indu Prakash became an IAS officer. The youth of this village are encouraged to take up the civil service seriously.

Despite almost every household in Madhopatti village having a member in the civil services, the condition of the village has not improved. Village roads are potholed, medical facilities are very basic and electricity supply is very poor, so much so that there is no coaching center for IAS aspirants.
