New Delhi: The Dominica High Court has granted bail to fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi on medical grounds to travel to Antigua. Choksi’s extradition hearing has been put on hold for now and he will undergo neurological treatment in Antigua. Dominica court has granted interim bail to Choksi to travel to Antigua and Barbuda on medical grounds. Strict bail has been given for treatment in Antigua. Interim bail has been granted till he is certified fit for travel. After that he will have to return to Dominica.

After absconding from India, Choksi has been living in Antigua and Barbuda since 2018 and went missing from there. He was arrested in neighboring Dominica on May 23 for illegal entry.

Choksi made this allegation

Choksi has alleged that his arrest in Dominica took place at the behest of the representatives of the Government of India and he filed a case in the High Court of Rosiu, seeking quashing of the proceedings against him. Choksi has said that he is a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda where he has challenged his extradition move. He claimed that Indians kidnapped him from Antigua and Barbuda and forcibly brought him to Dominica. Choksi claimed that he had reported his concerns to the Dominica police but they did not investigate the allegations.
