Speaking to a reporter, Varudammal said that with borrowed money and their own hard work, the parents supported their son’s education. Murugan, a lawyer by profession, studied law at Dr Ambedkar Law College, Chennai. He also became a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. During his career as a lawyer, he represented the BJP in several cases.

The couple has not changed their attitude after their son’s elevation to the post of state chief of a national party or his appointment as a Union minister.
