New Delhi : Launching the ‘Vehicle Scraping Policy’ on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this policy is an important step in the development journey of the country. On this occasion, the PM appealed to the youth and start-ups to join this policy. He said that ‘Vehicle Scraping’ will help in phased removal of unsuitable and polluting vehicles, in an environment friendly manner. He said that this would be helpful for modernization in transportation, reducing the pressure of travel and transport and for economic development. The PM said that we are promoting a circular economy. The government’s goal is to develop a sustainable and environment friendly economy.

An investment of about Rs 10,000 crore will come in the country.
Addressing the Gujarat Investor Summit online, the Prime Minister said that this policy will bring investment of about Rs 10,000 crore to the country. He said that Alang in Gujarat can emerge as a hub of vehicle scrapping. The Prime Minister said that the method adopted for scrapping vehicles in the country is not right. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was personally present in this program.

India will emerge in the field of automobile production
Gadkari said that this scrapping policy will bring down the cost of raw material by about 40 percent. The Union Minister said that with this policy, India will emerge as a major center in the field of automobile production.

This policy will help in removing old vehicles from the roads
Gadkari said that testing centers will be set up in all the districts across the country through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. This policy will help in removing the decades old vehicles from the road. He said that commercial vehicles above 15 years and private vehicles older than 20 years would come under the purview of this scrapping policy.
