New Delhi: Bernard Arnault, owner of the world’s leading fashion luxury goods company Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LMVH), has now become the world’s richest person. He has overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. French business tycoon Arnault’s net worth is recorded at $198.9 billion, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List. Bezos has a net worth of $194.9 billion, followed by Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk with $185.5 billion. Arnault spent $538 million in recent months acquiring shares of his own French label brand controlled by him and his family.
According to the Forbes list, Bezos’s net worth declined by $590 million, while Musk’s net worth is $184.7 billion. Amazon’s stock fell 7.6 percent on Friday after the company reported second-quarter earnings.
This is not the first time that Arnault has topped the list of the world’s richest people. He reached number one in December 2019, January 2020, May 2021 and July 2021. LVHM has an empire of 70 brands around the world including Louis Vuitton, Sephora, Tiffany & Co, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Christian Dior, Givenchy.
Arnault was born on 5 March 1949 in Roubaix, the third largest city in France. He studied engineering from the prestigious school Ecole Polytechnique. Arnault’s father made a small fortune in construction. Arnault got his start in 1985 by investing $15 million from that business to buy Christian Dior.
