Regular yoga practice enhances our overall health, strength and helps to calm our mind. While managing family and household, women often neglect their health which can lead to mental and physical problems, lifestyle problems and hormonal disorders like PCOS, thyroid disorders, obesity, stress and anxiety. It is necessary to practice yoga to maintain the balance of mind, body and spirit. It helps in bringing balance in all aspects of life. With a healthy body and mind, a person can take good care of himself and his family.

Yoga helps in maintaining one’s physical and mental health, which is an important factor for women. Women face stress in running the family, and some women have to coordinate both their career and family life.

Corporate life, long working hours and the added pressure of looking after their families can seriously affect women’s emotional health, fitness levels and sleep cycles. Yoga helps bring all these things back to normal. Some yoga asanas that can help deal with anxiety, depression and stress related problems are Balasana, Vrikshasana, and Matsyasana.

Without adequate sleep, one cannot function at one’s highest level, and yoga poses such as Siddhasana, Viparita Karini and Suptaardha Dandasana help improve our sleep cycle, sleep quality, and ward off insomnia.

Because of the reproductive cycle and the hormonal problems associated with it, women have more health issues than men. From puberty to childbirth and then menopause, a woman’s body undergoes many changes throughout her life. To counteract the effects these steps have on the body, continuous practice of yoga plays an essential role. A common problem affecting young women nowadays is irregular periods.

Normally a menstrual cycle is 28 days, but if you have not had a period for more than 35 days or bleeding occurs within 21 days of the last period then it is considered irregular. If it happens occasionally then there is nothing to be worried about, but, having irregular periods regularly is not a good thing and you should consult your doctor to find out what is causing it and how to treat it. how to fix Some of the reasons for this happening are – Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), exercising too much and using certain medications. Other reasons for this can be breastfeeding, pregnancy, thyroid and stress.

Yogasanas can also help with this, and some postures that can be practiced to manage irregular periods are Dhanurasana, Ustrasana and Bhujangasana.

Menopause is a stage that signals the end of a woman’s reproductive cycle and is a difficult phase for women, as it also involves a variety of hormonal changes that can cause problems. Exhaustion, mood swings and pain are some of the problems women have to deal with. Here yoga plays the role of healing so that women can deal with these psychological and physical changes. Menopause is a transitional phase, but yoga can play an important role in dealing with it effectively. Some asanas that can help during this period are Marjari Asana (Cat Pose), Anjaneyasana (Lunge Pose) and Salamba Bhujangasana (Sphinx Pose). Yoga also helps in balancing the hormones and keeping the woman calm and ready to deal with their problems.

Apart from these, there are many asanas that help in reducing the symptoms of migraine, thyroid and back pain, which is a common ailment that women of all ages suffer from. The suggested postures for migraine are Adhomukhasavan asana (Downward facing dog pose) and Prasaritapadottana asana (Legs wide and forward bend). For good thyroid health, one can try Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose) and Dhanurasana (Plowed Pose). Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Salamba Bhujangasana (Sphinx Pose) have been found to be most effective for reducing back pain.

Women should note that although there is advice on the importance of yoga, the practice of yoga should be done under the guidance of a professional. It is best to take yoga classes from a certified instructor who teaches you correct postures and proper technique.
