According to the Post, the Tiger Reserve has faced several administrative issues over the years, including low and delayed salaries to ground staff. It was also known as a ‘tiger sanctuary without tigers’ after the last census in 2018 did not provide any evidence of the animal’s presence. Despite all the criticism and challenges, the ground staff of Dampa continued their work. Now, the presence of tigers in the reserve has been confirmed by the Wildlife Institute of India. Jakhuma told The Assam Tribune, ‘This proves that the hard work put in by me and my fellow guards, who are being paid meager salaries, is not in vain.’
