- Dhoni ahead in hunting case
India and Sri Lanka are set to meet in a limited overs series (three ODIs and three T20Is). The first ODI will be played on July 13. There will be no players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah on the Sri Lanka tour. All of them are on tour of England. At the same time, Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that there are more young players in the team, India’s upper hand is considered to be heavy. However, Team India will miss the former Indian legendary wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, because Mahi’s agility against Sri Lanka was amazing.
Unmatched hunting record behind the wicket
It is well known that Dhoni used to prove to be very useful behind the wicket along with the finisher for the team in his era. He pushed the opposition team on the backfoot many times as a wicket-keeper. Dhoni also showed his ‘cheetah’ like agility on several occasions against Sri Lanka. He has an unmatched record of hunting behind the wicket. He is the wicket-keeper with the most wickets in the ODI between India-Sri Lanka. He made 96 victims in 67 ODIs. He took 71 catches and made 25 stumps. He is followed by Kumar Sangakkara, who took 75 wickets in 76 matches. He took 65 catches and took 10 stumpings.
Other wicketkeepers could not cross 30
Barring Dhoni and Sangakkara, no wicketkeeper from India or Sri Lanka has crossed the 30-mark in terms of hunting. Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Kaluvitarne (29 victims) is in third place. He took 22 catches and stumped 7 out. India’s Nayan Mongia is at number four. He played 27 matches and hunted 22. Mongia took 19 catches and stumped 6. At the same time, Rahul Dravid is at number five in the list. He made 12 hunts in 10 innings of 46 matches. Dravid took 9 catches while 3 stumped out.
