West Indies beat Australia by 18 runs in the first T20. West Indies scored 145 runs in front of Australia in the match at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on the basis of the strong innings of Andre Russell (51). In reply, the Australian team was bundled out for 127 runs in 16 overs despite Mitchell Marsh’s half-century innings. Obed McCoy (4/26) bowled well for West Indies. Captain Nicholas Pooran looked very excited by the victory of the Windies team. This is Pooran’s first win as captain.

Nicholas Pooran gave this statement

Nicholas Pooran said after the match what a great match. This was my first match as captain. I was not expecting that. After losing the series against South Africa, we knew we had to come back and do the right things. We didn’t score as big as we wanted. However, 145 was a challenging score. We asked the players to show their strength and they did just that. Can’t give enough credit to the bowlers. He showed aggression and we asked the bowlers to attack. We said hang on and they troubled the Australian batsmen a lot. We knew we needed wickets to win the match.

Know what Aaron Finch said

At the same time, after losing the match, Australia captain Aaron Finch said that the bowlers performed brilliantly. Especially in powerplay. The line and length he bowled was exceptional. Mitchell Marsh (51) and Matthew Wade (33) put us in a good position, but after that I think we got a bit flustered. We have been working on batting aggressively in the middle overs, but today we probably should have molded ourselves better. The pitch got better in the second innings. The ball came well. Now we should forget this match and move on and get ready for the next match.
