Mumbai. Dilip Joshi as Jethalal in the TV serial Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been tickling the fans for the last 13 years. But, do you know that comedian Rajpal Yadav was first approached for this role. Rajpal Yadav told that he does not regret at all for refusing the show.
In an interview to RJ Siddharth Kanan, Rajpal Yadav was asked if he was sorry to have refused the role of Jethalal in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. To this Rajpal Yadav replied saying, ‘No, no. Jethalal’s character has been recognized by a good actor, a good actor. And I consider every character to be the character of an artist. I don’t want to fit my character in the role of an artist in the industry.
Rajpal Yadav will not play such a role
Siddharth Kanan further asked Rajpal Yadav that he would like to play the character played by another actor. To this Rajpal said, ‘So I feel that whatever character was made, which was made for Rajpal, I should get the privilege of doing it, but I never got a chance to play the character created by another artist.’
These actors were offered the role
According to reports, Jethalal’s character was first offered to Jatin Kanakia, who played Keshav Kulkarni in Mr-Mrs. It was Jatin who gave the idea of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah to the producer of the show Asit Modi.
Jatin Kanakia died of cancer in the year 1999. After this the idea of the show was dropped. Later this role was also offered to Ali Asgar, Kiku Sharda and Yogesh Tripathi. In the end, this role went to Dilip Joshi.
