What is Green Fungus?
Regarding the green fungus, which is known as Aspergillosis, AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria has told that it usually affects the lungs. According to experts, this fungus is present in the environment both at home and outside and many times it reaches people’s body through the breath. But it is not necessary that every time people get sick because of it.
Which people are most at risk?
People who have strong immunity, they do not get sick even though this fungus enters the body through their breath, but people with weak immunity get infected by it. According to the US health regulatory body the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), infection with green fungus is commonly seen in people who have TB or any other lung disease.
Apart from this, its risk has also been seen highest in people suffering from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The infection has also been seen in people who have had organ transplants, who take high doses of steroids or are being treated for cancer.
Cases of green fungus in India have so far been seen mostly in people who have recovered from Kovid-19, but experts say that more research needs to be done about the incidence of green fungus in patients who have recovered from corona virus infection. According to experts, although green fungus is a type of infection, there is no risk of spreading it from person to person or from person to person.
