Kabul : Rocket hit Afghanistan’s Rashtrapati Bhavan on the occasion of Eid ul Azha (Bakrid). Fortunately, these rockets missed their target. Bakrid prayers were being offered when the attack took place targeting Rashtrapati Bhavan. No one was reported injured in the attack, Al Jazeera reported. Reuters news agency quoted local media reports as saying it was not clear who was behind the attack.
President continues to offer Namaz
Local TV footage showed President Ashraf continuing to offer prayers while rocket attacks and explosions were taking place. These rocket attacks took place around eight in the morning near Rashtrapati Bhavan. The area around Rashtrapati Bhavan is located in the Green Zone and embassies of many countries including America are located here.
Ghani gave speech after offering Namaz
After offering Namaz, President Ghani also gave a speech there which was broadcast on the local TV channel. Bakrid holidays started in Afghanistan from Tuesday. According to the report, three rockets fell one after the other near Rashtrapati Bhavan. The sound of rocket explosion was heard far away.
Rockets fell in many parts of Kabul city
Interior ministry spokesman Mirwaiz Stanekzai said: “Today the enemies of Afghanistan launched rocket attacks in several parts of Kabul city. These three rockets fell in different parts. According to the initial investigation report that has been received so far, no one has been harmed. This is not the first time Afghanistan’s Rashtrapati Bhavan has been targeted. Even before this there have been attacks targeting it.
Clashes continue between Taliban and Afghan forces
The last attack on Rashtrapati Bhavan took place in December last. The rocket attacks near Rashtrapati Bhavan come at a time when conflicts are going on between Afghan security forces and the Taliban in several provinces. The Taliban have taken control of large areas of the country after the withdrawal of American and NATO forces began. The Taliban have held two rounds of unsuccessful talks in Doha with the Afghan government to establish peace in the country. About 15 countries of the world have appealed to the Taliban to ceasefire on the occasion of Bakrid.
