  • Raina has come out in support of captain Virat Kohli

The Virat Kohli-led Indian team was defeated by 8 wickets in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) last month. With this defeat, Kohli’s captaincy is in question and he is getting a lot of criticism. However, many veteran cricketers have defended Kohli. Now former Indian batsman Suresh Raina has also come forward in support of the Indian captain. He has spoken openly about Kohli’s captaincy. Let us tell you that under the leadership of Kohli, India has not won any ICC trophy so far. He is also empty handed in IPL. RCB has not been able to win any title under his leadership.

‘Virat has achieved a lot’

In a conversation with News 24 Sports, Suresh Raina said about Virat Kohli, ‘I think he is the number-1 captain. His record proves that he has achieved a lot. I think he is the number 1 batsman in the world. You are talking about the ICC trophy, but they have not won even an IPL yet. I think he needs to give some more time. He further said, ‘There are going to be two-three World Cups one after the other – two T20 World Cups and then the 50-over World Cup. Reaching the final is not easy. Sometimes you miss out on certain things.

‘Indian team are not squares’

After the defeat in the WTC final, Kohli and the Indian team faced a lot of trolling on social media. Many users used the ‘C’ word i.e. squares for captain and team. Raina says that the Indian team has won three World Cups and such words should not be used for that. Raina said, ‘Look, we are not squares, because we already have the 1983 World Cup, the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. We need to understand that the players are working hard. There are three World Cups to come. I don’t think anyone would call them squares.
