Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis feels pacer Mohammad Amir will find it difficult to make a comeback in international cricket without an impressive performance at the domestic level. Amir had retired from international cricket in December last year after saying that his teammates and coaches cause him mental pain.
The left-arm fast bowler had recently participated in the Pakistan Super League but did not get much success. According to reports, he had recently met Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive Wasim Khan following which speculations were rife about his return ahead of the T20 World Cup in October.
“Undoubtedly he is a great cricketer, but if he doesn’t want to come back from retirement and influence the selectors by playing cricket, then it will be difficult,” Younis told reporters via video conference from England on Monday.
He said, “This is Pakistan cricket and it is not mine or your cricket team. You have to do good work to play for your country. This is not franchise cricket and everyone should remember this.” Younis said that he was not aware of Khan and Aamir meeting. He said, “To be honest, I don’t know about it. ”
