He was set to travel to England to replace injured players ahead of the five-Test series against England starting on August 4. Both were included in the Indian Test squad as replacements for injured Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar. Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, one of the stand-by players, has been included in the main squad while stand-by pacer Avesh Khan will return home with a fractured left thumb. Earlier, Shubman Gill was also injured and he returned.
Earlier, the Indian team had won against Sri Lanka in the first T20 match played on Sunday. India were unlikely to change the winning combination after beating Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the first encounter. Earlier the ODI series was won by India 2-1.
