New Delhi: Zaheer Khan has mentored Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who produced a match-winning performance against England at Lord’s and became the center of discussion. The fast bowlers from Gujarat are known for their calm on the field and rarely do they lash out at any player. But a different avatar of Bumrah was seen at Lord’s. At the end of the third day, Bumrah bowled a bouncer on James Anderson. After this there was a lot of dispute between the two players.
The two had a heated exchange of words and Anderson reportedly alleged that Bumrah bowled him too fast. The incident enraged the entire team including the Indian bowler. On the fifth day when Bumrah came to bat, the Indian team was struggling and needed some runs. Bumrah could not take a wicket in the first innings and was dismissed without opening an account.
England attacked Bumrah with a bouncer, but the Indian cricketer remained at the crease. Bumrah scored an unbeaten 34 runs with Mohammed Shami in a crucial unbeaten partnership of 89 runs. Bumrah, who secured the match with the bat, then took three wickets in the second innings to help India register a 151-run victory.
Bumrah used anger in the right way: Zaheer Khan
Former India pacer Jasprit Bumrah believes that Bumrah’s struggle in the first innings inspired him to do better in the second innings. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Khan said, “If he gets angry and carries himself and performs like this, then I think he needs to show the opposition team by doing this from time to time. Look, he could not take wickets in the first innings and being a class bowler I am sure he must have been worried.
The former fast bowler praised Bumrah’s efforts. Bumrah took three crucial wickets in the second innings. He dismissed Rory Burns in the first over. Then in the first over after tea, Joe Root was dismissed. His last wicket was Olly Robinson, who took England to 120 all out at 120/7.

Zaheer Khan said, ‘When Anderson episode started, he bowled a bouncer to the English cricketer. In batting, he played dominant over the bowlers. All these gave him encouragement and he used his anger in the right place. England must be thinking that we should have allowed Bumrah to bowl a bouncer and not get into him. The zeal with which Bumrah bowled is commendable.
