The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has started preparations to demolish a portion of the waiting bungalow of Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan for road widening. In this regard, notice was given to Big B in the year 2017, which has now been started. In the notice sent to the Bachchan family for road widening, the BMC had mentioned that a part of their Pratiksha bungalow would be acquired for the widening of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Marg road.
The BMC has also directed the Mumbai Suburban Collectorate city survey officers to demarcate the exact portion of the bungalow required for the road widening project. Sant Dnyaneshwar Marg connects Chandan Cinema area with link road towards ISKCON temple. Municipal Councilor Advocate Tulip Brian Miranda while talking to ANI asked why the BMC work was completed for all the houses other than the Bollywood actor, why the important project was put on hold.
Under the road winding policy, BMC had given notice to actor Amitabh Bachchan about this situation in 2017. The wall of the plot adjoining Amitabh’s bungalow was taken away and a drain has been built but the actor’s house was left untouched. Miranda says when the notice was issued, why was the land not taken? If it was of a common person, it was taken immediately under section 299 of the Municipal Act, which said that you need not wait for another notice. The lawyer further said that despite repeated attempts, she could not get in touch with the authorities till she threatened to approach the Lokayukta.

The lawyer said, ‘I had written to the BMC in February 2021. I did not get any response, so I had a telephonic conversation with the ward officer and wrote to the commissioner but still no response. This is a much needed project as there are two schools. Mumbai has a hospital, an ISKCON temple and memorials. The road project has been put on hold suddenly due to Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow. I started the movement and followup in February. I am very happy that this work has started again when I said that if this special order is not complied with and if the notice is not served then I will approach the Lokayukta.
