- The second T20 match between India and Sri Lanka will now be played on Wednesday 28 July.
The second T20 cricket match between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday was postponed for a day after Team India’s all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be Corona positive while Krunal was ruled out of the series with a seven-day isolation. The reports of all the eight people who came in close contact with Krunal have come negative and they will be available for selection in the match tomorrow.
As per Sri Lanka’s health safety protocol, Krunal will not be able to return home with the rest of the Indian team on July 30. They will have to wait for negative RT PCR after completing the mandatory isolation. The third and final T20 match will be held on Thursday. A board source said, “Symptoms have been found in Krunal. He has cough and sore throat. He is out of the series and will not be able to return with the rest of the cast.
He said, “The good news is that the reports of all the people who came in close contact with him have come negative.” Krunal was found positive on Tuesday and is in isolation. BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said in a statement, “The second T20 match between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held on July 27, has now been postponed by a day. Now it will be on July 28.
He said, “The rapid antigen test was done before the match on Tuesday morning in which the report of Krunal Pandya has come positive. The medical teams have identified eight members who were in close contact.” The source said, “If all goes well, the match will take place on Wednesday. Most of the eight persons in close contact are sportspersons and are in isolation.
A member of the Indian team said, “We are all in isolation in our respective rooms till the test report comes. India has brought in a 20-man squad and four standby net bowlers. The match is to be held here at R Premadasa Stadium. Now there will be two consecutive matches on Wednesday and Thursday. India won the first T20 by 38 runs. It is incomprehensible how Krunal, who has been living in a tight bio bubble for the past one month, turned positive. This could also affect the departure of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav, who are scheduled to leave for next month’s Test series against England.
