New Delhi: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is operated by the GMR-led consortium, Indira Gandhi International Airport. It has been voted as the ‘Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia’ by Skytrax for the third consecutive year in 2021, the company said in a statement on Monday.

The company said that the airport has also been awarded the ‘COVID-19 Airport Excellence Award’ for providing excellent safety protocols during the global pandemic, making it the only airport in India to be included in this category. Notably, Delhi Airport has also improved its overall ranking, rising from number 50 in 2020 to 45 in the 2021 World’s Top 50 Airports League. Delhi Airport has become the first Indian airport to achieve this feat.

The GMR-led Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) is another major winner of this prestigious award. The airport has moved up from 71 in 2020 to 64 in the global rankings this year. Under the GMR airports umbrella, Delhi airport ranks first, while Hyderabad airport ranks second in the ‘Best airport in India and Central Asia’ category, surpassing Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai airports. India and Colombo airport are in the Central Asia region.

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are the most prestigious awards for the airport industry, voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. Measuring customer service and facilities at over 550 airports, they are considered a quality benchmark for the world airports industry. Surveys and rewards are independent of any airports control or input.
