- Pakistan tour of England 2021, ECB had to choose England’s new ODI team
- The outbreak of Corona virus engulfed the England ODI team
- The crisis deepened after many players got infected, now there will be 9 new players in the team
England were forced to opt for a completely new squad for the ODI series against Pakistan on Tuesday after seven cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the main team of the limited overs format. Players’ samples were taken on Monday after the ODI match played in Bristol against Sri Lanka, in which three players and four members of the support staff were found to be Corona positive. However, the name of any player or member who got infected with the infection has not been given. The rest of the team members were also in contact with the members found positive.
England has to play the same number of T20Is in addition to the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The Pakistan tour will begin on Thursday with an ODI match in Cardiff as per the schedule. The ECB’s (England and Wales Cricket Board) director of cricket (men) Ashley Giles said he was confident the team had not violated coronavirus protocols, but despite the rise in cases of the delta type of the virus in England, social distancing was the case. This may be a natural consequence due to a slight relaxation.
Players staying in hotels without bio-bubbles
The England players were staying in hotels that are not part of the bio-bubble. The players of the team were staying in bio-secure hotels in the last domestic season. Giles said, “Given the new type of virus spreading rapidly, our risk of getting infected was going to increase.” How could it be affected.”
9 players will play international cricket for the first time
There are nine players in this new England team who have become part of the national team for the first time. Ben Stokes will be the captain of this team while regular coach Chris Silverwood is returning to the team. He was on leave during the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Most of the core team members are likely to make a comeback for the T20I series starting July 16.
We were forced, so had to make changes
Giles said, “We were forced to change all the players and the management team. I am proud of the way everyone has come together to make this happen.” Giles said that most of the members who came positive do not have symptoms, but some people have minor colds. All players in the main team have been given at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19, but not all have been fully vaccinated.
Giles said, “We are facing a very difficult situation. Along with taking care of the players and our people, we also have to save the revenue of the entire game. It is very difficult to reconcile the two.” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Monday that all restrictions related to the Kovid-19 lockdown will end on 19 July. This includes limiting spectators indoors and out (indoor and outdoor) and sporting events with face masks.
Help will be sought from the government
Giles said that cricket officials would seek help from the government regarding the impact it would have on the game. ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said, “We are aware of the dangers of the delta type of the virus and the risk of transmission due to laxity in the bio-bubble.”
He said, “We have followed protocol and made strategic choices for the well-being of players and support members.” Before joining the team in Cardiff, an 18-member team of players and staff were tested negative for Kovid-19. will have to be presented.
