India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane (Ajinkya Rahane) did not disclose the probable team composition for the five-match Test series against England starting on August 4, but indicated that pacer Shardul Thakur’s ability to bat lower order (Shardul Thakur) can be used. Rahane, when asked who is the best batsman among Indian bowlers who can fill Hardik Pandya’s place, took the name of his Mumbai teammate Shardul. He also took seven wickets in the Brisbane Test in Australia, including a half-century.

Rahane said, “Everyone is a different kind of player. What Hardik did in 2018 was different for us. Shardul can bat. You have seen him bat in Australia and he has done well in domestic cricket as well.” Shardul has scored seven fifties in first-class cricket at an average of 16.58.

Rahane said, “(Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammed) Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj, Umesh (Yadav) and Ishant (Sharma) are practicing in the net session. Whatever 20-30 runs we score at the end of the innings, it matters a lot. The result will be visible later. Right now it is important to contribute as a team member by working harder in this process. We are expecting some contribution from our tail batsmen.

Without naming anyone, Rahane said that the batsmen should continue to play in their style. Referring to Cheteshwar Pujara, in response to a question on intent, he said that when there is no message from the team management, everyone should continue playing in their own style.

“Obviously, we sat down together and discussed our batting plans but it’s a challenging situation for a batsman in England. Everyone has different plans and everyone needs to support their (playing) style.” Rahane said his team is fully aware that England will have grassy pitches and Indian players. Needs to tackle the conditions favorable to the fast bowlers.
