New Delhi: Indian Railways successfully conducted speed trial of new AC-2 tier LHB coach. The new coach ran at a speed of 180 kmph. According to a senior railway official of West Central Railway (WCR), the trials were conducted to check various aspects of the coach and its compliance with European standards.

A railway official told Mint that the Indian Railways has conducted over 60 speed trials of various coaches and locomotives in the WCR in the Nagda-Kota-Sawai Madhopur section, which has a total length of about 350 km and has so far covered about 8900 km of speed in this section. Trial has been conducted.

Indian Railways had already conducted successful oscillation trials of air-conditioned three tier economy class coaches on the Nagda-Kota-Sawai Madhopur section at a speed of 180 kmph. Indian Railways also shared a video of the same in which the speedometer can be seen touching the 180 kmph mark and the train crossing various marks at lightning speed.

Indian Railways plans to run trains at a speed of 160 kmph on the Mumbai-Delhi route in the next two years and the Nagda-Kota-Sawai Madhopur section falls on this route. Currently, trains are running at a speed of 130 kmph on this route.

Features of the new AC 3-Tier Economy Coach:

The AC duct has been redesigned for each berth of the coach.

The coach has an improved and modular design of seats and berths, foldable snack table, injury free space and space for water bottles, mobile phones and magazines.

Separate reading lights and mobile charging points are provided for each berth in addition to the standard socket.

The coach has wide doors which make it particularly convenient for disabled passengers.

Extra berth is provided in the coach. The number of berths in the new coach has been increased from 72 to 83. RCF has a production plan of 248 coaches in the current and next financial years. RCF is planning to manufacture 248 such coaches in the current and next financial years.
